The dataset is based on the 1942 archival card index Britische Schwarze Liste, compiled by Swiss federal authorities during the Second World War to document Swiss firms placed on British blacklists. The individual cards record the company name, often together with an address or location, and the dates on which a firm was added to and subsequently removed from the blacklist. In some cases, further notes document changes in listing status or related administrative information. Taken together, the cards provide a firm-level record of British blacklisting in Switzerland, making it possible to trace when individual companies entered and left the lists, their geographical distribution, and changes in blacklisting over the course of the war.
