Anglo-Swiss Advertisement

Dataset Description

The Anglo-Swiss Advertisement Corpus brings together 5,355 advertisement instances published in the official journals and periodicals of the British Chamber of Commerce for Switzerland between 1920 and 1953. The material spans several publication formats, including the Anglo-Swiss Review, Anglo-Swiss Commercial Gazette, Commercial Bulletin / Official Journal, and Anglo-Swiss Trade Review, and documents 412 distinct advertisers. Individual records include company names, addresses and locations, advertised products and services, and, where present, named contact persons, representatives, and other commercial information. The preserved advertisement images additionally document visual presentation and branding. Recurring advertisements and campaigns make it possible to trace firms, products, geographical and sectoral patterns, and changing forms of commercial self-presentation across more than three decades.
