The Special Trade Index of 1951 differs from the BSCC’s regular Trade Indexes by recording not only individual firms, but also the commercial relationships connecting them. It is organised into three cross-referenced sections: United Kingdom principals, Swiss agents and representatives, and commodity and service groups. These references make it possible to reconstruct links between British firms, their Swiss intermediaries, and the goods and services associated with those relationships. The network visualisation below translates this original cross-reference system into an interactive representation of Anglo-Swiss trade connections at the level of individual firms and agents.
The network can be explored interactively by selecting individual nodes to inspect their connections and associated information. Use the mouse wheel or trackpad to zoom in and out, and drag the background to move across the network. The search and filter functions can be used to narrow the network by company, location, or goods, allowing specific firms, geographical concentrations, and commercial relationships to be examined directly.
