The dataset reconstructs the membership of the Basler Handels- und Industrieverein, Basel’s principal commercial association, between 1876 and 1995. Derived from annual records of the Basler Handelskammer, it documents firms affiliated with the association and preserves their recorded years of membership across more than a century. The source material is particularly suited to tracing continuity and change within Basel’s organised commercial community, including the persistence of long-standing member firms, the entry and departure of individual businesses, and changes in the composition of the association over time. Unlike the more detailed BSCC Trade Indexes, the original membership records contain little information beyond company names and affiliation. Within NOISE, however, these firms can be connected with appearances in other datasets, allowing membership information to be related to commercial sectors, locations, advertisements, and other institutional affiliations where corresponding records exist.
